Toshiba SD-63HK Home Cinema System:
Features and Benefits (continued)
Compact, High-Performance Woofer
FEATURE: Advanced KOI design employs high-precision components, including an internal 4.7-inch bass driver and a passive radiator, and state-of-the-art technologies, such as smart-electronics power-smoother circuitry, to deliver superb bass performance from a surprisingly compact unit. Unlike inferior systems that use a higher crossover frequency, the SD-63HK woofer is truly non-directional.
BENEFIT: The SD-63HK woofer module delivers deep, tight bass, fully capable of meeting the demands of today’s music and movie soundtrack spectra. The elegant, small-footprint design complements today’s lifestyles and, combined with the woofer’s non-directional sound output, enables placement just about anywhere in the room.
FEATURE: Proprietary passive radiator design includes use of highly specialized surround material, designed to control output factors, such as system “Q.” KOI’s objective is to emulate the bass character observed in acoustic (as opposed to electronic) musical instruments.
BENEFIT: KOI’s unique woofer design endows the SD-63HK system with much more natural-sounding bass than competitive
systems. Most other compact woofer designs have very high system Q and numerous phase shift anomalies, which explain the all-too-common, unnatural, tiring “one note” bass.
FEATURE: Integral KOI Human PsychoAcoustic® amplifier module (see below) utilizes the high air movement velocity generated by the bass driver system.
BENEFIT: Efficient cooling is realized without an expensive, bulky heat sink. Cost and size are reduced.
Human PsychoAcoustic® Amplifier
FEATURE: The KOI Human PsychoAcoustic (HPA) amplifier module, housed in the woofer cabinet, incorporates proprietary circuitry developed through years of research to ensure the most accurate sound reproduction.
BENEFIT: The application of KOI Human PsychoAcoustic technology results in speaker systems that sound fundamentally “correct” to the human ear. Even after hours of listening to cinema soundtracks or music, the SD-63HK owner will enjoy the most refined sound reproduction without the fatigue associated with lesser systems.
FEATURE: Surprisingly compact, the HPA amplifier module comprises six channels of double push-pull FET device power with output characteristics designed to elicit optimum performance from the five main loudspeakers and the woofer unit. Each amplifier channel delivers full-bandwidth performance with a frequency range of 20Hz to 25kHz. Distortion is less than 0.02%.
BENEFIT: The highly efficient design of the HPA amplifier combines with the SD-63HK system’s high-efficiency KOI speaker designs to deliver dynamic range and SPL output that belie simple power output ratings. SD-63HK system performance is, in fact, comparable to audiophile-grade component systems many times the size, weight, and cost.
FEATURE: The HPA amplifier module features an advanced KOI shock and vibration protection design. Furthermore, the amplifier is fully protected against output short circuits, under- and over-voltage conditions, and overheating. A power on/off mute function.
BENEFIT: KOI’s superior engineering ensures trouble-free operation and long service life for the SD-63HK, including an extra measure of insurance against the unexpected. The mute function suppresses annoying and potentially damaging transients.
Flat, High-Performance Speaker Cable

FEATURE: The included speaker cables are of a special, flat design. They feature an advanced construction that ensures low inductance.
BENEFIT: The flat speaker cable can be run under carpeting and attached to walls with double-sided adhesive tape. It can also be painted for near invisibility. The cables’ superior electrical characteristics ensure the highest possible sound quality.
